New or Prospective Substitute Applicants

Please complete the application below to apply for substitute positions with the ESC of the Western Reserve, or participating districts in Geauga and Lake County. After submitting the substitute application, you will be contacted via email to complete the additional required documents. It is your responsibility to complete and provide copies of the documents to the ESC. Thank you for your interest!

Note: After April 15^th of each year, ALL applications received for substitute opportunities will be considered for the next school year.  Click on the link below to begin the application process. 

1. Apply by completing the New Substitute Application

2. Print and complete the following required documents  

• Substitute Preference Check List
• (View only) Substitute Assignment Guidelines 
• Acknowledgment of Receipt of the Substitute Assignment Guidelines 
• Information Release Form
• Fraud-Reporting Acknowledgment Form, learn more about Fraud Reporting
• Student Privacy Statement & Confidentiality Agreement (FERPA)

3. Complete both FBI and BCI Background Checks. 

4. Hold or be able to obtain an ODE Teacher or Substitute Teacher license, follow one of these links to learn more: ODE Teacher or Substitute Teacher License, or an Educational Classroom Aide Permit. 

Note: If you are a classified applicant interested in open positions in a Lake County school district, or you do not see a district listed on our Preference Check  List that you are interested in, please contact that district directly.
