Jennifer Felker, Superintendent
Dear ESCWR Staff,
We are thinking of all of you and your families during this very difficult time. COVID-19 has brought upon the world a new set of complex issues that everyone is working through and the Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve is not exempt from those issues. Governor DeWine has made many decisions to put forward orders in Ohio to protect all of us, including the closing of schools through May 1, 2020.
Since the ongoing coronavirus health crisis began, we have been working closely with client school districts to establish systems to deliver alternative delivery models to our client school districts. We have worked to redeploy as many staff as possible through alternative delivery models in order to continue billing services. Unfortunately, the alternative delivery models requested by our client school districts do not allow us to maintain all positions and, as a result, the ESCWR will need to temporarily reduce staff. It is with a heavy heart that we make this decision. However, with the expansion of unemployment benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic individuals will continue to receive income quickly through the Ohio Unemployment program. There is also additional compensation available through the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program for those who apply/qualify and the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) continues to make healthcare benefits available for affected staff.
We are hopeful to learn more from the Governor and Dr. Amy Acton over the next few weeks and provide clarity as to whether staff and students will return to school in May. We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available on how the COVID-19 pandemic affects our services and clients.
We are planning a Zoom Meeting on April 23rd to discuss our 2020-2021 Mission/Vision/Goals. Please watch your email for a calendar invite.
Please continue to protect yourselves and your families. Again, we are thinking of all of you and we will get back to normalcy at some point. Stay positive and we look forward to the future in continuing to educate students.
